This Privacy Policy explains what information Well Water Advisor (wellwateradvisor.com, “we”, “us”) collects when you use this website, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We do not sell your personal information. Questions or requests: privacy@wellwateradvisor.com.
Information we collect
- Usage and device data, collected automatically: pages viewed, time on page, clicks and scrolling, referring site, browser and device type, screen size, and approximate location (city or region) derived from your IP address.
- Affiliate link clicks: when you click a product link, our server logs the link, the time, the referring page, your browser user agent and your IP address. We use this only for aggregate reporting on which recommendations are useful.
- Information you give us: calculator answers stay in your browser unless you choose to copy a shareable link, which puts them in the link URL. If you leave a comment, email us, or request a quote from a service provider, we receive the details you enter, such as your name, email address, phone number or ZIP code.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information such as financial account numbers, government ID numbers, or precise geolocation.
Analytics
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google LLC, to understand how the site is used in aggregate: anonymized usage trends, technical diagnostics such as errors and browser support, and performance metrics such as page load speed. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses, and we do not use it for advertising or to identify individual visitors. Google processes this data as described in Google’s Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can also block it on all sites with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Microsoft Clarity
We use Microsoft Clarity to see how visitors interact with the site so we can find and fix usability problems. Clarity provides behavior analytics such as session replays, heatmaps, scroll depth, and “rage click” and “dead click” detection. It uses first-party cookies on our domain and third-party cookies set by Microsoft to tell visits apart. Clarity masks text you type into form fields by default, and we do not use it to identify you personally.
Clarity data is collected and processed by Microsoft Corporation under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. You can turn off Clarity and Google Analytics for your browser in Privacy & Cookie Settings below.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This site uses the following:
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose and duration |
|---|---|---|
_clck, _clsk | Microsoft Clarity (first party) | Recognize a returning browser and group page views into a session. 1 year and 1 day. |
MUID and similar | Microsoft (third party, clarity.ms) | Microsoft’s visitor identifier for Clarity. Up to 1 year. |
_ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics (first party) | Distinguish visitors and sessions for aggregate statistics. Up to 2 years. |
wwa_analytics_optout | Well Water Advisor | Remembers that you opted out of analytics. 1 year. |
comment_author_* | WordPress | Only if you leave a comment and choose to save your details. 1 year. |
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking cookies will not stop the site or the calculators from working.
Affiliate links and service partners
We earn money through affiliate programs, including the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you click a product link and buy something, the retailer may set its own cookies to credit the sale to us. Retailers do not send us your name, contact details, or what you bought beyond what is needed to calculate commissions. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.
We may also partner with home service networks and local contractors so you can request quotes for well water testing, treatment or installation. Information you enter in a quote request or share on a call is sent only to that network and the participating providers so they can respond to your request, and it is then handled under their own privacy policies. We share it only because you asked us to. We never sell your personal information to data brokers, advertisers or anyone else.
Comments
When you leave a comment we collect the information in the comment form, plus your IP address and browser user agent to help detect spam. Comments may be checked by an automated spam detection service. An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to see if you use it (Gravatar privacy policy). Approved comments and your profile picture are public.
How long we keep data
- Analytics data is retained according to each provider’s retention settings and is used in aggregate.
- Affiliate click logs are stored on our server and used only for aggregate reporting.
- Comments and their metadata are kept until the comment is removed, so follow-up comments can be recognized.
- Emails and requests you send us are kept as long as needed to respond and keep a record of the request.
Your US state privacy rights
Residents of California and other US states with consumer privacy laws, including Colorado, Connecticut, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Virginia, have rights over their personal information. Depending on where you live, you can:
- Know and access the personal information we have collected about you and how we use it.
- Delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to legal exceptions.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and of targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Not be discriminated against for using any of these rights.
Our analytics data is used in aggregate and is not linked to your name or contact details. You can opt out of it at any time using the settings below. We also treat a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal from your browser as a valid opt-out and turn off analytics automatically.
To make a request, email privacy@wellwateradvisor.com with the subject “Privacy Request” and the state you live in. We will verify the request using the information you provide and respond within 45 days. You may use an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf. If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision.
