What This Site Is
Well Water Advisor is an independent research and publishing platform focused on private well water: testing, contamination, and treatment system sizing. Our guides and free diagnostic calculator are built to help homeowners understand a water problem before they spend money on equipment.
Our Methodology
Recommendations on this site are based on standardized water treatment engineering rather than personal opinion. That includes grains-per-gallon calculations for water hardness, gallons-per-minute flow rate sizing for whole-house systems, and contaminant thresholds referencing commonly cited EPA secondary and primary drinking water standards. The diagnostic calculator applies this same logic consistently to every set of inputs.
Editorial Process
Every guide is researched and written by the WWA Editorial Team, a small team focused on residential water treatment, and checked against the primary sources listed below before it is published. All sizing formulas, flow rate calculations, and contaminant thresholds are verified against official EPA secondary standards and WQA guidelines.
Sources We Rely On
We do not rely on manufacturer marketing for thresholds or health guidance. Our guides are built on:
- U.S. EPA private well guidance and the EPA primary and secondary drinking water standards
- CDC private well resources for bacteria, testing frequency and disinfection
- USGS research on domestic wells for regional contaminant patterns
- Water Quality Association (WQA) and NSF/ANSI certification standards for treatment equipment
- Manufacturer specification sheets for flow rates, media volume and service intervals
How We Evaluate Equipment
Our reviews and comparisons are research-based. We do not claim to have lab-tested every product. For each system we check what it is certified or designed to remove, its rated service flow in GPM, media type and volume, backwash and maintenance needs, warranty terms and total cost of ownership. We then match it against the water problems it actually solves.
How This Site Makes Money
Some links on this site are affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases, and we may also earn commissions from other retailers. Commissions never change how a system is sized or which type of treatment we recommend. Read the full affiliate disclosure.
Corrections and Updates
We review guides regularly and update them when standards, prices or product lines change. The “Updated” date at the top of each article shows the last review. If you spot an error, email info@wellwateradvisor.com and we will correct it.
What We Are Not
This site is not a certified water testing laboratory, a licensed well contractor, or a substitute for either. Any diagnostic result from this site, especially anything involving bacteria, nitrates, or other health-related contaminants, should be confirmed with a certified lab test before you make a treatment decision.
Editorial Neutrality
Some links on this site are affiliate links, and we may earn a commission on qualifying purchases. This does not change how equipment is sized or recommended. Full details are in our Affiliate Disclosure.
